Shock Treatment for Your Water Softener

Your water softener and filtration system are only as good as your water supply. When your water supply has high concentrations of contaminants, your water softening system works twice as hard. This may result in lessened efficiency and poor water quality.

Fortunately, Soft Water Specialists LLC is here to guide you through the process of water softener shock treatment. This will help you clean the unit and eliminate built-up minerals that prevent it from working in top condition. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Open the top of your well casing.
  2. Run a hose down the shaft and circulate water for 10–20 minutes.
  3. Add your shock treatment chemicals.
  4. Continue to circulate water for 10 minutes.
  5. Open a tap as far away as possible down the lines (preferably an outdoor tap) and shut off the hose circulating into the well shaft.
  6. Run cold water until a tap has disinfectant chemicals. Shut that tap off and go to the next one.
  7. Repeat the previous step with hot water.
  8. Shut all taps and let sit for 12–24 hours.
  9. Run all the water until the disinfectant is gone.

It’s always best to run water using outdoor taps first. This is so you’re not running large amounts of chlorine into septic tanks. If problems persist, feel free to contact us in Kennewick, WA, for maintenance services.
